Frequently asked questions
Who owns the most cell towers in the United States?
American Towers LLC is the largest owner with 21,672 FCC antenna structure registrations, followed by Cellco Partnership (6,626) and CCATT LLC (5,006). Counts reflect FCC-registrable structures only — carriers also lease space on towers they don't own.
How is tower ownership determined?
Each FCC registration lists an owner/licensee entity. TowerCensus groups the 195,149 owner-linked registrations by stable FCC licensee identity into 21,798 distinct owners; corporate families with multiple licensee IDs (subsidiaries, acquisition vehicles) appear as separate entries, exactly as registered.
